Chocolate Cake Balls
I love a recipe that doesn’t require many utensils or much washing up. It’s the kind of thing I make when I’m lying on the couch after dinner and just feeling like creating something delicious but don’t feel like having to clean a blender or food processor. It’s a one-bowl pantry-staple recipe, and you get the bonus of having a delicious homemade dessert or snack for the rest of the week!
These are actually a perfect snack due to the fact that they are sugar free, plant-based, high in fibre and is essentially just made of nuts and cacao! I like to enjoy two as an arvo snack with some fresh berries or raw veggie sticks and a cup of tea.
This is a version of my Peanut Butter Choc Balls, but made with almond butter instead. The amounts are slightly different as peanut butter is much drier than almond butter so I thought it deserved its own recipe fro those that don’t like peanut butter.

INGREDIENTS
- ½ cup almond butter (or almond based, like ABC or almond chia or almond hemp)
- 2 tbsp cacao
- 4 tbsp coconut flour
- ½tsp pure monk fruit powder
- 2 tbsp hemp seeds, for rolling
METHOD
- Combine almond butter, cacao, coconut flour and monk fruit in a bowl and mix into a dough with your hands. Place in the fridge for 30 minutes to harden slightly. Remove from the fridge and roll into 8 balls.
Notes
- Pure monk fruit powder is a sugar-free sweetener (read more about what monk fruit is and where to get it here), not to be confused with “monk fruit sweetener” which is actually an erythritol based sweetener.
- Read more about these sweeteners here, including my product recommendations. If you are unsure what to use, read more about sugar and my philosophy here.
- This recipe works with any nut butter.
