How To Hack Your Morning For More Energy

Win the morning, win the day. It’s a common phrase that we hear quite a lot, so how can the choices we make in the morning affect the rest of our day, and what can we do to ensure we feel energised the whole day?

You’d be shocked at how normal it is to walk around feeling flat and having no energy. It’s so normal that often we don’t even realise something can be done about it. But improving your energy levels will benefit you in so many ways. You’ll feel happier and more excited for life, you’ll be more productive, more likely to exercise and with better performance too. You are also less likely to reach for junk food and sugary snacks and your overall brain power is much more powerful!

Sounds pretty good right? Here are some ways to hack your morning for more energy.

Waking up

Even the way in which you wake up makes a difference. Our body runs on a natural internal clock, called a circadian rhythm, which regulates our internal sleep wake cycle. To put it simply, the sunrise triggers particular neurotransmitters that help us wake up, and the sunset does the same with different neurotransmitters that allow us to fall asleep.

This means that waking up with natural light from a window, as opposed to a loud alarm in a blacked out room, actually leads to a smoother waking experience, therefore we feel more naturally energised.

If available, try keeping your blinds open and allow the natural light to slowly wake you.

Hydrate

Upon waking, you’ve likely gone about eight hours without any water, so it is really important to hydrate first thing in the morning to prevent dehydration.

Dehydration can lead to dull skin, low mood and cognitive function and decreased physical performance during exercise. And of course these things can leave us feeling flat and tired.

Aim to sip on 500ml of water in the first hour of waking up, to ensure you are hydrated.

Caffeine & MCTs

After you’ve woken up and taken a sip of water, it’s common to want that caffeine energy hit we all know so well. For some that may be before breakfast or maybe you prefer it after breakfast, whichever works best for you.

Caffeine gives us an undeniable boost of energy, but did you know you can enhance your morning coffee by adding MCT oil. MCT stands for medium chain triglycerides and these are a particular type of dietary fat that are commonly found in coconut oil.

MCT oil may help with energy and focus, as well as boosting cognitive function, increasing satiety levels and aiding in weight management.

Due to the size of the MCT molecule, they are rapidly absorbed and transported to the liver where they can be converted to ketones to be used for energy.

When in a fasted state, like in the morning before you have eaten breakfast or if you are following a low-carb diet, this feels like a major boost of energy on top of what caffeine alone normally produces. Some early studies have shown that the addition of caffeine to MCT Oil enhances the ketogenic effects.

You may even experience a more sustained energy as opposed to a crash in the afternoon, the effects of MCT’s can last throughout the day. Our MCT OIl Brain Power is specifically designed to increase mental energy, support mental clarity and help maintain focus and high energy levels.

If more energy is on your wish list, try adding a teaspoon or two of MCT oil to your morning routine! My fave is Melrose MCT Oil!
