Superfood Hot Chocolate
It's winter.... it's cold. Time for warm and rich drinks right! If you've followed me for a while you'll know I'm obsessed with my fatty drinks and I love my bulletproof coffees most mornings. But sometimes I like to change it up! Of course if I'm not having coffee, cacao is a must. It's a natural energy booster, packed with all sorts of good nutrition and in this drink I've paired it with collagen... a superfood that is famed for it's ability to heal and seal the gut. Think of all the benefits of bone broth, well yeh... collagen is basically just that.
This recipe is rich and filling, packed with protein, fat and superfoods, it is a perfect option for breakfast if you're following a low carb or ketogenic lifestyle. I'm a huge fan of liquid breakfasts (or no breakfasts for that matter)... I find them far easier on the digestive system and just generally a nice thing to wake up to (or for me personally... to enjoy post morning workout).
When I eat I EAT! I enjoy large meals packed with veggies and all sorts of good stuff (#livbowls), and early in the morning I just don't feel like having a big meal! So things like this are perfect for me, plus it's a great way to get collagen in my diet!
1 tablespoon coconut butter
1 teaspoon cacao butter
1 tablespoon collagen protein
2 teaspoons raw cacao powder
250ml hot water
Adaptogens optional (I use maca, rhodiola and ashwaghanda)
1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend!
I'm not a sweet kind of girl... I much prefer this recipe as is, I also don't like to have sweeteners in the morning. If you have a bit of a sweet tooth, feel free to add a couple drops of liquid stevia however for me the richness of the coconut is enough, and I love the naturally rich and bitter cacao!
